COOK IN HALL OF FAME Print E-mail
A much deserved honour is being bestowed upon a legendary local hockey icon as former Fort William North Stars General Manager, the late Gary Cook, will be enshrined into the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in the Builder's Category.

Cook, who passed away in January of this year following a lengthy battle with cancer, will be recognized at the Hall of Fame Induction Dinner on Saturday September 27th in Thunder Bay. He will be honoured for his years of service in the hockey ranks at many levels from junior, senior and professional hockey where he guided multiple teams to league and national championships.
 
SL FLYERS PLAYER SIGNINGS Print E-mail

The newest team to the SIJHL, the Sioux Lookout Flyers acquire defenceman A.J. Wensley from the Fort Frances Jr Sabres on August 9. A.J. is 5 10 and 200 lbs. and will add some stability to the blueline. Tanner Hlookoff was acquired on June 16 2008 from the Quenel Millionaires of the BCHL. Tanner is 6', 185 and will add some much needed experience to the blueline.
 
Josh Kozar was also signed. Josh played for the Norman Northstars of the Manitoba AAA Hockey League. At 5’ 11” 175 lbs, the Flyers are very pleased with his previous play with the Norman AAA Northstars and he will be a great addition to our team.

 
FWNS ANNOUNCE PLAYER SIGNINGS Print E-mail
The Fort William North Stars have announced their initial player signings for the 08-09 season. A total of 14 players have already been signed heading into the club's main training camp, which gets underway August 25 at the PA Arena.
 
All three of last season's leading point producers will be back in the North Stars black and white this season as well as the club's top scorer in the playoffs. Leading scorer Ryan Magill is back as are Mitch Forbes and Trevor Gamache who finished second and third respectively on the squad in point production in 2007-08. Also returning is Joel Langevin who averaged over a point per game after being acquired by the club midway through last season in a deal with Weyburn of the Saskatchewan Jr Hockey League. The Nanaimo, BC native led Fort William in playoff goals with 10 and postseason points with 17 in the run to the SIJHL finals.
 
Back to offer leadership and a physical presence for the North Stars are rugged forwards Cale Brown and Keith Mason who return for their final season of Jr hockey. The pair of Thunder Bay products averaged 26 points apiece last season while combining for over 400 penalty minutes.

DI PLAYER SIGNINGS Print E-mail
Monday August 11/08 -- The Dryden Ice Dogs are pleased to announce the signing of three players for the 2008/2009 season.
 
Tanner Harms, 6' and 175lbs is a center man who hails from Steinbach, Manitoba and played last year for the Eastman Selects in the Manitoba AAA midget hockey league. Tanner recorded 10 goals adding 18 assists for 28 points in 39 games.
 
Graham Leiding, from Morden Manitoba,  6' 1" and 175 lbs played right wing for the Pembina Valley Hawks last year in the Manitoba AAA midget hockey league. In 40 games, Graham recorded 15 goals adding 16 assists for 31 points. 
 
Jon Mowat, from Norway House, Manitoba, is a left winger who played last year for the Norman North Stars in the Manitoba AAA midget hockey league. At 5' 10" and 180 lbs Jon recorded, 8 goals adding 13 assists for 21 points in 38 games. 
 
ID's GARDNER TO NEUMANN Print E-mail
The Dryden Ice Dogs are pleased to announce that graduating player, Marlon Gardner, has accepted a scholarship to Neumann College NCAA Division III. Marlon played 2 years with the Ice Dogs and helped the Ice Dogs win the SIJHL Championship last season. Marlon would like to thank the Dryden Ice Dogs and the City of Dryden and fans for their support. Marlon also gives thanks to his family and friends from Eagle Lake for their support throughout his junior and minor hockey playing days.
The Dryden Ice Dogs wish Marlon the best at Neumann College next season and thank him for his dedication to the Ice Dogs.
 
SL FLYERS TRY-OUT DATES Print E-mail
The Sioux Lookout Flyers have announced their 08-09 inaugural season try-out dates as Sept. 2nd – 5th at Sioux Lookout Arena.
