| Sioux Lookout Community Shows Support for Flyers

The SIJHL is proud to announce the residents of the community of Sioux Lookout came out en masse to support the town’s Junior A ‘Flyers’ on a Friday November 14th afternoon rally at a local community hall. The former owner of the Flyers walked away from the team as of Tuesday November 11th. Local organizers and former volunteer management want to see the team survive and reached out to the citizens and business community to assist with taking ownership of the team. View full story

The SIJHL announced late Tuesday night that Game #49 between the visiting Sioux Lookout Flyers and the Fort William North Stars is postponed. The match-up was scheduled for a 7:30pm puck drop at the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay. In addition, Games 50 and 51, scheduled for Thursday and Friday November 13 and 14, Sioux Lookout Flyers at Thunder Bay Bearcats, have also been postponed. We apologize for the inconvenience. Seven different players scored goals and 11 had at least one point as the United States claimed the gold medal with a 7-1 win over Canada West on Sunday night in front of a capacity crowd at the Edgeworth Centre.

THUNDER BAY, Ont.—The Dryden Ice Dogs rallied from a two-goal deficit and went on to a dramatic 6-5 victory in a shootout over the Fort William North Stars in Superior International Junior Hockey League action Saturday evening at the Fort William Gardens. Dryden captain Chad Liley had three goals to lead his side while Garrett Nystedt had the lone goal in the shootout.

CAMROSE, AB – Apparently the Canada West team that showed up for the tournament opener on Sunday night against Belarus wasn’t the true version of the two-time defending gold medalists.
Two nights after being shocked in a shootout by the Belarussians, Canada West scored five goals on the powerplay – including two on five-on-threes – in a 5-2 win over Russia on Tuesday night at the Edgeworth Centre.

David Wolf opened the scoring less than a minute after the opening face-off but Canada East took over from there, scoring a 6-3 win over Germany on Monday night in the first game for both at the 2008 World Junior A Challenge.

Yauheni Salamonau scored the lone goal in the shootout as Belarus shocked the two-time defending gold medalists 4-3 in the tournament’s opening game on Sunday night at the Edgeworth Centre.
